Henderson UMW is a vibrant organization with around fifty members. Some are very active participants in every UMW activity and others are members because they want the opportunity to fellowship with other women of the church. UMW is large enough and varied enough to serve all our needs – women living for God in today’s world. The UMW prayerfully embraces the mission and ministry of Henderson UMC as we participate in social aid projects and serve in the Church, the community and, through our financial pledges, throughout the world.
Sunlighters Circle meetings are held in the daytime to study the Word and share joys and burdens. This group of ladies is the “go-to” crew for impromptu luncheons for bereaved families and they participate in all matters UMW. Together, they provide a sense of history and experience that sustains us all. They readily admit that the assistance of the other circles, along with a hard-working nucleus of the men of the church, add tremendous value to what they are able to accomplish.
Virtual Circle. No meetings are held by this group; communication is by email. They step in to partner with the other circles for UMW work projects as well as for the annual Turkey and Dressing Dinner in November and the annual Chili Dinner in February. This dynamic group of women plan and conduct additional projects, calling on their UMW sisters to assist as needed. Generally, these ladies work outside the home, have children still at home and want to contribute to the ministry and mission of Henderson when possible. We rely on the energy and dedication they offer.
Moonlighters Circle is a diverse group that has two meetings each month, September through May. No meetings are held during summer months. All Circle IV members are invited to share a Dutch-treat lunch each month in area restaurants where conversation and good old-fashioned fellowship is the entire agenda. The other meeting is on the second Thursday evening of each month. The ladies enjoy refreshments as they study the Word, plan ways to serve better and maintain a bond of friendship that results in a cohesive, working circle. Moonlighters Circle is fairly evenly divided between women who work and those who don’t.
The At-Large Members group of ladies cannot attend meetings for various reasons but want to be identified with United Methodist Women because that is who they are in their hearts. These ladies hold the group in earnest prayers, sometimes present programs at Unit meetings, and join in on projects when they can.
UMW membership is open to every woman, whether or not she is a member of the Church.
