Dear Friends,

One of the most important things to remember when we come to know God is that everything is the same – yet nothing is the same. We breathe the same air, drink the same water, but like someone falling in love, everything seems to glow with a special magic. Our senses are so awakened that the sky really does look more blue, the grass is greener, and every second we’re alive feels charged with the wonder and majesty of God. We realize that He is our constant companion, and we begin to see the world through new eyes. Jesus’ eyes. Those that notice what can be.

A little 3-year old boy felt secure in his father’s arms as Dad stood in the middle of a swimming pool. But Dad, just for fun, began walking slowly toward the deep end gently chanting, “Deeper…and deeper…and deeper,” as the water rose higher on the child. The boy’s face registered increasing degrees of panic, and he held all the more tightly to his father – who of course could easily touch the bottom of the pool.

Had the boy been able to see the situation clearly he would have realized there was no reason for the increased anxiety. The water’s depth in any part of the pool was over his head. Even in the shallowest part, had he not been held up, he would have drowned. His safety anywhere in that pool depended on Dad.

At various times in our lives, we all feel as though we are out of our depth. Problems abound: our health fails, a job is lost, someone dies, an unwelcome change occurs. The temptation is to panic because we feel as though we have lost control. Yet, as with the child in the pool, the truth is we’ve never been IN control. Not over the most valuable things in life. We have always been held up by the grace of God our Father, and that will not change.

That awareness may be a little disconcerting when first considered, but it offers a tremendous sense of relief to those who will see it. God is never out of His depth. We are as safe in the deep end as we have ever been.

We know us. We know God. I vote we place our trust in HIM.

Upward and onward!

Blessings,

Robin
